Job Description

Cherokee Town & Country Club , one of the nation’s premier private clubs, is seeking an experienced Director of Private Events to lead our private events team and help create exceptional experiences for Cherokee members and their guests. Based at our historic Town Club in Buckhead and providing leadership across both Cherokee clubhouses, this is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role for someone who understands that extraordinary hospitality begins long before an event starts. From intimate member lunches and milestone celebrations to weddings, signature Club events, and large golf outings, Cherokee hosts a wide range of experiences. The Director provides the leadership, structure, coaching, and operational oversight that allow the team to execute each one with consistency, creativity, and the level of service our members expect.

Salary: $105,000–$115,000

Why This Role Is Different

Lead the Team

This is first and foremost a leadership role. You will coach, develop, and support an experienced Private Events team while establishing clear expectations, strengthening consistency, and ensuring the Cherokee Standard is reflected throughout the member experience.

Shape the Experience

Our members are also the owners of the Club. Success comes from listening well, understanding what matters to them, anticipating needs, and helping turn their ideas into memorable experiences.

Balance Creativity With Standards

There is room to be creative at Cherokee, but there is also a strong understanding of who we are and how we serve our membership. You will help the team find that balance, bringing fresh ideas while maintaining the traditions, standards, and service expectations that define the Club.

Lead the Most Important Moments

While the majority of your time will be spent leading and supporting the team, you will personally take the lead on some of Cherokee’s largest, most complex, or most special events.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide leadership and oversight for Private Events operations across both Cherokee clubhouses.
  • Lead, coach, train, and develop Catering Planners and support team members.
  • Serve as a resource to the team, helping resolve challenges and ensuring events remain on track.
  • Partner closely with Culinary, Banquets, Beverage, Clubhouse Operations, Facilities, Communications, and other departments to ensure seamless execution.
  • Maintain a visible presence during key events and provide hands-on leadership when needed.
  • Maintain and reinforce Cherokee’s standards for hospitality, service, communication, and execution.
  • Build trusted relationships with members and understand their expectations, preferences, and vision for their events.
  • Provide thoughtful recommendations and enhancements that elevate the member experience without creating a traditional sales-driven environment.
  • Personally oversee select weddings, major social events, signature Club functions, and other complex or high-profile events.
  • Provide oversight of BEOs, menus, timelines, floor plans, staffing, vendors, billing, and event logistics.
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, labor planning, and other operational responsibilities related to Private Events.
  • Continuously look for ways to strengthen the member experience, improve processes, and support the team.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Event Management, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in catering, private events, luxury hospitality, private clubs, hotels, resorts, or a similar high-touch service environment.
  • Proven experience leading and developing an events, catering, banquet, or hospitality team.
  • Demonstrated experience managing weddings, major social functions, and complex events.
  • Private club, luxury hotel, resort, or high-end hospitality experience strongly preferred.
  • A leadership style that is supportive, accountable, collaborative, and comfortable working alongside the team.
  • Exceptional organization, communication, judgment, creativity, and attention to detail.
  • Strong financial and operational skills, including budgeting, forecasting, labor planning, and event cost management.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while remaining calm, responsive, and solutions-focused.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work successfully with members, colleagues, vendors, and senior leadership.
  • NorthStar or Delphi experience is a plus.

The Cherokee Difference

At Cherokee, we’re in the happiness business.

Our events can range from a small gathering among friends to a wedding, family milestone, holiday tradition, or major Club celebration. Regardless of size, each one matters because it represents an experience our members have entrusted to us.

This role is not about chasing commissions or hitting traditional catering sales quotas. It is about leading people well, understanding our members, managing the operation responsibly, and helping a talented team consistently deliver experiences that feel personal, polished, and distinctly Cherokee.

If you are a hospitality leader who enjoys developing people, building relationships, solving problems, and creating memorable experiences while maintaining exceptionally high standards, we would like to meet you.
